DESCRIPTION:Laguna native grown Kaj Garmshausen has been carving since he was a kid\, but only recently decided it might actually prove a source of income.  On Sunday\, Nov. 18th\, he’s doing his first artistic show as he’s joining forces with fellow Laguna artist Alexandra Neptune from 3 -7 p.m. at the Neptune School of Wine at 3315 Hyland Ave\, Costa Mesa. \nThis event will feature at least 12 pieces\, including one I saw emerging from a giant block of wood just a month ago. A self-taught artist\, Kaj says he favors California native woods and his pieces reveal his love of the California coast as many carvings are simply derived from driftwood he finds in various pockets up and down California. Get your early holiday love on in this charity benefit for Surfers Healing. \nSurfers Healing is the original surf camp for children with autism. Surfers Healing was founded in 1997 by Izzy and Danielle Paskowitz\, parents of Isaiah\, now a 26-year-old autistic adult. Izzy is a former professional Longboarder who won several of the biggest surf contests in the world\, and he and Danielle are stars of the reality show\, The Swell Life\, which aired on Oprah’s television network\, OWN. The June 3 event will be hosted by Izzy\, Danielle\, and Isaiah. Supporting their efforts on the beach will be their son Eli\, daughter Elah and her fiancé Andrew\, their grandchildren\, and their Autism Ohana – Surfers Healing. \nLast year\, Surfers Healing celebrated its 20 years of what is now #oneperfectday of surf sand\, fun inclusion\, natural healing and acceptance. The surfers who take the kids out are all hand-picked by Izzy. Some are current pros or former players\, but all of them have the heart it takes to be safe and rip up the perfect waves. \nThere are 11 total surfing and SUP contests with a $60 entry fee that includes lunch and a goodie bag.
