SUMMARY:40th Anniversary - Halloween
DESCRIPTION:The beginning of all slasher horror genre films was the head-clutching screamer\, Halloween\, the movie. Now\, it’s 40th anniversary is fast approaching. I can still remember the reverberations this movie caused when I was just eeking out of elementary school in 1978 – it had much the impact as “The Exorcist” had on audiences in 1973\, and changed the look of horror films forever. \nIn Halloween\, a young boy kills his sister on Halloween of 1963\, and is sent to a mental hospital. 15 years later he escapes and returns to his home town in order to wreak havoc. This is where Jamie Lee Curtis earned a place in history for vocal screaming – and surprising dexterity and calm in the face of “adverse” circumstances.

SUMMARY:Full Moon Drum Circle
DESCRIPTION:In Laguna Beach\, we’re entirely too sophisticated to bark at the full moon\, but we will DRUM at it . . . in a massive\, talented drum circle that is\, thanks to our eclectic organizers at LaVida Laguna. \nA mainstay in this town for more than eight years\, the Full Moon Drum Circle in Laguna Beach draws anywhere from 50 to 200 people who\, ehrm\, well … drum around a massive bonfire. It’s an absolute blast! \nThe brainchild of LaVida founder Billy Fried\, the Drum Circle in Laguna Beach is just one of many events and tours the company offers. By day\, you’ll find the company offering a hearty serving of Laguna Beach-based kayak\, stand-up paddle and surf lessons – all provided by Fried and his intrepid squad of “funtrepreneurs.” By night\, though\, it’s the Drum Circle that rules. \nThe Drum Circle always takes place at the Aliso Creek Beach\, about two miles south of Main Beach\, just past the Montage Resort. If you show up at 6:00\, bring food with you to share in the monstrous pot luck. Then\, from about 7 – 10 p.m.\, the drums begin to roar.

SUMMARY:Ghostbusters
DESCRIPTION:Fathom Events and Columbia Pictures bring the original Ghostbusters (1984) to select cinemas nationwide for a special one-day event. This 80s comedy classic tells the story of university parapsychologists Venkman (Bill Murray)\, Stanz (Dan Aykroyd) and Spengler (Harold Ramis) turned paranormal investigators. What they discover is that all Manhattan is being besieged by ghosts\, and even worse demons\, through a portal in their client Dana Barrett’s (Sigourney Weaver) Central Park West apartment building. On their mission to save New York City\, the Ghostbusters encounter many more other-worldly spirits.

SUMMARY:Annie Auditions for Kids - No Square
DESCRIPTION:Last year’s production of ANNIE was so popular\, No Square Theater is bringing it back. Adult auditions are Saturday\, September 22\, starting at 6:30 p.pm.\, and youth auditions are set for October 8 and 9. Forms and audition details are available on the website: www.nosquare.org \nThis wildly popular\, Tony Award-winning musical (Music by Charles Strouse\, lyrics by Martin Charnin)\, will be directed by Joe Lauderdale and choreographed by Ellen Prince. With a minimally staged concept\, this production places much more emphasis on the actors and the story rather than scenery\, making the Ensemble even more important than it would be in a traditionally mounted production. \nPerformances will be Friday-Sunday\, November 30—December 22. General rehearsals begin October 10\, Monday –Friday\, 6:30-10:00 PM and Saturday 10:00-5:00\, at No Square Theatre. (Schedule is approximate and subject to change.) \nStrong performers are desired for leading roles and ensemble parts. In ANNIE\, the spunky orphan with humble beginnings in 1930s New York City\, inspires everyone with her enduring positive attitude. Standout songs include “It’s a Hard Knock Life\,” “Easy Street\,” “I Don’t Need Anything But You\,” and the ultimate anthem of optimism\, “Tomorrow.” \n

SUMMARY:50th Anniversary - Rosemary's Baby
DESCRIPTION:Possibly the best horror film ever made\, Rosemary’s Baby is a brilliant adaptation of Ira Levin’s best-selling novel. It’s the story of a loving young New York City couple who are expecting their first child. Like most first-time mothers\, Rosemary experiences confusion and fear. Her husband\, an ambitious but unsuccessful actor\, makes a pact with the devil that promises to send his career skyward. Director Roman Polanski elicits uniformly extraordinary performance from the all-star cast. Ruth Gordon won an Oscar® for her performance as an oversolicitous next-door neighbor in this classic chiller.
