It’s an absolute blast! \nThe brainchild of LaVida founder Billy Fried\, the Drum Circle in Laguna Beach is just one of many events and tours the company offers. By day\, you’ll find the company offering a hearty serving of Laguna Beach-based kayak\, stand-up paddle and surf lessons – all provided by Fried and his intrepid squad of “funtrepreneurs.” By night\, though\, it’s the Drum Circle that rules. \nThe Drum Circle always takes place at the Aliso Creek Beach\, about two miles south of Main Beach\, just past the Montage Resort. If you show up at 6:00\, bring food with you to share in the monstrous pot luck. Then\, from about 7 – 10 p.m.\, the drums begin to roar.

With a minimally staged concept\, this production places much more emphasis on the actors and the story rather than scenery\, making the Ensemble even more important than it would be in a traditionally mounted production. \nPerformances will be Friday-Sunday\, November 30—December 22. General rehearsals begin October 10\, Monday –Friday\, 6:30-10:00 PM and Saturday 10:00-5:00\, at No Square Theatre. DESCRIPTION:Near and dear to my heart\, our homegrown PMMC (Pacific Marine Mammal Center) continues to operate out of little red barn in our canyon as one of the 2 busiest marine mammal hospitals in the country. Co-Founder John Cunningham still attends every single board meeting and seal/sea lion release and I’m figuring he and his team have been responsible for the rehabilitation and healthy release of at least 10\,000 marine mammals over these years. \nIt’s an awesome legacy\, and a fun gala\, to boot.  On Sunday\, Sept\, 9th\, festivities begin at The Ranch at 4:30 with cocktails and silent auction. Dinner and live auction follow with live music throughout the evening from “Yachty by Nature\,” a surfside/Jimmy Buffett/Eagles sort of band that croons the tunes of the 70s and 80s. \nSome Gala tickets still available.

Expect many\, many galleries to be open throughout the City\, and expect hundreds and hundreds of milling throngs as people drop in on their favorite galleries to chat with artists in person\, grab great art at sometimes-special pricing\, sip wine and gnosh on free goodies. \nYou can also expect to see restaurants and other retail shops in on the game of it\, too\, keeping their doors open well past their usual closing hours. \nI usually head out with a few friends and we make a night of it with both walking and trolley rides. \nTROLLEY SERVICE\nFree trolley service for art walk starts at 6:30 pm and ends at 9:30 pm. Trolleys begin at the Laguna Art Museum (north) and Bluebird Canyon Road (south). The trolley route runs as far north as Viejo Street\, up Laguna Canyon Road as far as Canyon Acres\, and south to Bluebird Canyon Road. Map \nPARKING\nMetered parking is available along Coast Hwy. and a few blocks inland on either side of the street and is free after 7:00 pm. If you prefer\, you may park in the residential area located 2-3 blocks inland from Coast Hwy.

DESCRIPTION:My favorite weekly event at the Festival of Art? Easy. Thursday evening’s “Art\, Jazz\, Wine & Chocolate.” It’s a great evening of wine and chocolate tastings\, with great music to boot! \nI’m not sure that this event needs a lot of salesmanship. When you have art\, live jazz\, wine and chocolate at your disposal for two full hours\, life can’t get much better. It happens every Thursday night through the festival season from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. \nThis year\, you’ll be sampling a variety of Kendall Jackson wines\, each of which is expertly paired with a variety of high end chocolates from XAN Confections. As you enjoy your chocolates and wine\, you have free run of the Festival grounds to peruse art from 140 California-based artists. Meanwhile\, different jazz ensembles entertain weekly. Thursday\, Aug. 23rd  features the ever popular contemporary jazz group\, L.A. Collective \nTickets\nTickets for “Art\, Jazz\, Wine & Chocolate” are $20\, which does not include Festival of Arts admission or reserved seating. You must be 21 to participate. \nThe Festival is always free to Laguna Beach residents and military. Otherwise\, General Admission on Thursday evenings is $10\, $7 for seniors and $5 children\, ages 6-12. Now in its tenth year\, the competition is more exciting than ever as Festival artists compete to win the top prize. \nCompeting in this show “where fashion meets art” are Festival exhibitors Richard Bohn\, Carla Bosch\, Antje Campbell\, Kate Cohen\, Brad Elsberry\, Carolyn Johnson\, Elizabeth McGhee\, Adam Neeley\, and Kirsten Whalen. Utilizing reclaimed\, reused or recycled material\, each artist is encouraged to wow the judges with their talent and originality. \nThe Festival Runway Fashion Show offers cash prizes of $1\,000 in four categories: Most Creative Concept\, Most Exciting ensemble inspired by Pageant of the Masters theme “Under the Sun\,” Most Innovative Use of Materials\, and Most Glamorous & Elegant “Red Carpet” worthy creation. There will also be a “People’s Choice Award” to be voted on at the event. \nThe fashion show will be hosted by KTTV FOX11’s Entertainment Reporter Amanda Salas. She has been covering red carpets and award shows for over 10 years for Hollywood Today Live and the Orange County Register before joining the FOX11 team in 2017.
