DESCRIPTION:Years ago\, Ruben Flores of Laguna Nursery fame started the Garden Walk at his original location at Mountain and Coast Highway and continued the tradition after moving the nursery to North Laguna at Jasmine. \nThis is absolutely the best tour in Laguna Beach. And it’s year-round! Every time I go on these walks\, I have so much darned fun. Ruben is a walking Wiki of every imaginable tree\, shrub\, flowering weirdness and weed. \nBut it doesn’t stop there. Because Ruben has expanded his landscape architect business to interior rescue as well\, Ruben knows every architectural style (and where people mix and match building materials or all the wrong plants in the rudest of ways). He talks about pavers and sprinkler placement and where the sun will shine on an inappropriately located plant. \nIt’s the most imaginative way to really discover the magic of Laguna Beach. Usually about two hours in length\, the Garden Walk is just $10 for thousands of dollars of advice. DESCRIPTION:Six years ago\, this event began as a 2-day food festival. It has since ballooned to include pre-parties\, pre-pre-parties\, celebrity chef cooking demonstrations and post-parties. \nThe crux of the event features large tents at the Newport Civic Center with top talent from 40 primarily-Newport based chefs and a literal GOB of crazy good wines at the ready. Our only representative from Laguna is Chef Rainer Schwarz with Driftwood Kitchen (and Laguna Niguel’s Hendrix)\, a significant decline in top-ranked chefs who used to participate from our culinary town. (I find this a bit sad even though I adore many of the chefs in attendance this year.) \nCelebrity Chef demonstrations this year feature Hubert Keller\, Nobu Matuhisa\, Richard Blais of Junier + Ivy and Shirley Chung of Ms Chi Cafe. Master Somms Michael Jordan\, Peter Neptune and Georg Riedel descend as well with fun wine-tasting events that are added plusses to the general admin tickets. \nPurchase a $150 ticket for Friday’s 5:00 p.m. BBQ at the Balboa Bay Resort beach.
