Meet Zeus, a Presa Canario
Dogs Who Brunch Series
South Laguna Beach
This gorgeous Gentle Giant, Zeus, has recently made his home in Laguna Beach with his person (and quite renowned artist), Aaron R. Thomas.
I first met Zeus a few days ago at Cafe Vienna ( a very dog friendly coffee house/restaurant here in Laguna Beach), as he and his person had recently settled in South Laguna Beach. I first mistook him for a Mastiff as Zeus is one enormous, muscled giant weighing in at a solid 170 or so pounds. Turns out, though, that Zeus is a rare breed that hails from the Canary Islands – he’s a Presa Canario.
Today (Sunday), with the sheer luck of having my camera in my car, I passed Zeus and Aaron on PCH, pulled to the curb, yanked out my camera and stopped them in their tracks. Zeus padded up to me, happy to greet me again, having met me only a couple briefly days prior.
[singlepic id=468 w=320 h=240 mode=watermark float=right]Now 10, Zeus came special order to Aaron as an extremely large 7-week-old pup, and quickly grew to his adult weight in a year’s time. Sheer, solid muscle from nose to tail, Zeus is as gentle and loving as they come. As a new Laguna Beach adoptee, he loves running on the beach and swimming in the surf, so don’t be surprised at a bit of sea spray when patting his freshly (enormous) wet head.
