If you’re a Pirates of the Caribbean fan, here’s your chance to walk in Jack Sparrow’s shoes (preferably not shambling as he does). In fact, even Spock fans will find this an equally interesting tidbit:
This coming weekend, the Ocean Institute is enjoying one last weekend with its visitor, “celebrity” tall ship, The Lady Washington. On both Saturday and Sunday, visitors can arrange for sunset sails, ship tours and, yes, pirate-themed cannon battles with the Institute’s resident tall ship, The Spirit of Dana Point.
Jack Sparrow’s Go-To Girl
The Lady is quite a Hollywood star, having been featured in mega-blockbusters including Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Star Trek: Generations, and the TV shows, Once Upon a Time and Revolution.
Her story is also based in the Hawaiian islands, as she opened the black pearl and sandalwood trade between Hawaii and Asia when King Kamehameha himself became a partner in the ship. (She looks quite good for her age, don’t you think?)
Live Like the Pirates … For a Day
Heading out to the ocean on a magnificent tall ship is such a rare and perfect treat.
Over this weekend with Lady Washington, visitors will enjoy blasting cannons, towering rigging, bustling decks and the magnificence of this ship’s giant canvas sails full of wind. Guests can work with the crew hauling up sail or simply sit back and appreciate the spectacular demonstration of skill, knowledge and survival.
Visitors must be at least four years old to board. Click for ticket prices as well as dates of Lady Washington’s Adventure Sails and Tours. (If the above link doesn’t work, go to: www.ocean-institute.org and click “Calendar” under the button, “Plan Your Visit.”)
Tickets include day-of admission to the Ocean Institute, which is at 24200 Dana Point Harbor Drive, Dana Point, 949-496-2274.
