Amidst all the bustle of mid-summer Laguna Beach, the Bluebird Park Summer Concert Calendar is rolling into play, and this year two weeks earlier than ever with an additional live music group added in.
Each year on July and August Sunday evenings, our more southerly Bluebird Park comes alive with live music that varies from Grateful Dead tribute bands to great rock and roll, Reggae and jazz.
Although most locals are very familiar with Bluebird Park, newcomers and visitors might not know it even exists. This is such a lovely park. Unlike the gorgeous ocean setting of the Heisler Park concert series in May, Bluebird Park is more like sitting in a meadow clearing amidst towering trees. It’s quite serene and lovely. The music, though, is far from serene. This is a fun, rocking evening no matter who’s on stage.
Pack up your chairs and picnic blankets (no placement before 3:00 p.m. please) and tote in a picnic basket with all your favorites. It’s a great friendly crowd of locals and visitors alike, and a perfect way to end a weekend and begin the week ahead.
Here’s the Bluebird Park Concert Calendar in Laguna Beach 2018:
Sunday, July 15
Scot Bruce, a tribute to Elvis
A returning favorite, Scot Bruce began his Elvis tribute concerts in 1990 when he was trying to make ends meet between acting jobs. Now, he’s Elvis everywhere – in commercials, on national network television and in music videos with stars such as Faith Hill and Sheryl Crow.
Sunday, July 22
The Devastators
Awesome, high energy Reggae, this long-time group is out of San Diego, but plays frequently in the OC and L.A. They rift on classic Reggae sounds, and add in a heap of funk, piano and organ, too.
Sunday, July 29th
Lost Beach
Yet another new selection for Bluebird, this is a great indie rock group with a sound that reminds me of a mix between U2 and … hmm … maybe Collective Soul. A little sassy, woozy and super talented, lead singer Jonny Perdue is a Texas native who discovered Cali beaches and decided to never leave. They released their first EP last year, and it’s been climbing the charts with alacrity.
Sunday, Aug. 5
ABBA Gold – Tribute to ABBA
Returning favorite ABBA Gold, a “master class in pop music.” Relive your favorite (high school? college?) days and tunes with this UK-based band.
Sunday, Aug. 12
Room at the Top – Tribute to Tom Petty
While Lead Singer and Guitarist Jamie Browning looks and plays amazingly like Tom Petty, he actually pronunciates better than the classic favorite. In other words, you might actually learn the words to the songs you’ve been singing all these years. Browning has played with everyone from the Righteous Brothers to Iron Butterfly, and his bandmates bear similar long bios of global stage play.
Sunday, Aug. 19
Woodie and the Longboards
You can’t have summer in the park without a surfin’ kind of boogie-woogie music day, and this tribute band to the Beach Boys brings all those great beach day memories back.
Sunday, Aug. 26
Santanaways – Tribute to Carlos Santana
And to wrap up our summer at the Blubebird Park concert series, none other than the popular tribute band to Carlos Santana. What a cool and groovy way to say goodbye to yet another great season.
You are posting all of the dates as Sundays but there all Monday’s
HI Melanie – the post you’re looking at is the 2018 coverage of Bluebird. All of the dates are correct for the 2019 lineup!
