This week, Seabutter Sushi began its soft open phase in the old San Shi Go location at 1100 S. Coast Highway. Essentially, they’re using this week to dial in the service and food before they expand to full operational hours. This Friday and Saturday (and moving forward), operating hours are 5 p.m. – 10 p.m., with Sunday/Tues/Wed/Thurs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. They are closed on Mondays. Here’s Seabutter’s (Laguna Beach) Open Table link for reservations.

A popular Beverly Hills eatery, Seabutter Owners George and Angie Fratkin chose to expand to Laguna Beach just before Memorial Weekend; this will be their second restaurant. “I’ve been saying that if we opened another restaurant, we’d get one on or near the beach, and we really weren’t even looking. We literally fell into this spot. We’re loving Laguna Beach.”

Although the Fratkins have not been restaurant owners prior to their Beverly Hills establishment, they were sushi fanatics. “We had an opportunity to pivot in our careers, and we decided to open a sushi restaurant the way WE would want a sushi restaurant,” he said.

Seabutter in Beverly Hills quickly became known for its unique creations, relying on sushi chefs who were true aficionados in all parts of the fish. The restaurant is known for carrying rare treats, such as Uni from three different global locations, or Amberjack in addition to the more regularly offered Yellowtail. Stay tuned for my dining review next week! If you get there before me, be sure to leave a comment in my social media (I just posted about Seabutter today, Friday): Instagram and/or Facebook.
