In honor of Earth Day in Laguna Beach, the Blue Water Green Earth group has posted an Earth Day Challenge for this coming Saturday, April 26th.
“Clean up the entire city of Laguna Beach in just 30 minutes”
Granted, I can’t clean my entire house in 30 minutes, and I live in a little space. But, with several hundred expected Laguna Beach residents showing up, I’m betting we can make serious progress in Laguna Beach.
Here’s how Earth Day Clean Up works:
This year’s Earth Day event – a combination of the KelpFest and the Earth Day Celebration – will take place on Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., on Main Beach and Park Avenue. I’ve posted all the music details here in my ” Live Music in Laguna Beach” weekly column.
As soon as the Festivals start to rock, cleanup begins. You’ll find traffic directors and tools of the trade at the lifeguard tower, but bring your own gloves and bags, too, please. If you’re not downtown, do your part on your nearest street or beach!
The same organizers are doing an “Earth Hug” at noon, same lifeguard tower, and this is going to be a great photo opportunity, methinks. Renowned Laguna Poet John Gardiner will lead the ceremony. During this event, “Earth Lovers” lay facedown in the sand to give the Earth a big hug, think snow angel only backwards.
Those who wish to take part in the town cleanup effort and the “Earth Hug” should contact Rick Conkey at 573-8624 or by email: rick@bluewatergreenearth.org prior to the event so he can assign a cleanup area.
