It’s that time of year again: Friday, May 4th is the date for the Laguna Beach Garden Club’s fundraiser, the Gate & Garden Tour of South Laguna, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
This year, the diversity of the gardens in South Laguna stands out. The 10 private gardens on the 3/4-mile tour, plus the South Laguna Community Garden Park, range from formal to fanciful to fruitful and reflect the past and present of this unique neighborhood. For example, there is a quarter-acre classic French garden on Mar Vista Avenue with ocean views, and a one-of-a-kind, whimsical garden on Santa Rosa Drive.
Fun is in the air as this year’s tour takes place on the “Eve of Cinco de Mayo” and offers margaritas and Mexican fare, free refreshments, plein air painters in several gardens, and a raffle of prizes from local artists and businesses.
Tour tickets are $45 in advance and available at LagunaBeachGardenClub.org and at Laguna Beach Books, Laguna Drug, Laguna Nursery, Tides Inn, and Dana Point Nursery.
On May 4, $50 tickets will be available at the tour’s starting point: Arabella Laguna Historic Cottages, 506 North Coast Highway, Laguna Beach, which is the location of the registration and reception areas.
