On the first Thursday of every month, Laguna Beach hosts its famous ArtWalk. With temperatures warming and skies clear, this coming May 2nd event promises to be a great one.
Now, as you may or may not know, Laguna Beach was first established as an art colony that soon attracted Hollywood (and the rest of the world) to its scene. But, when you have more than 200 galleries and artist studios in Laguna Beach, ranging from sculpture to oil paintings, it can sometimes be overload to even the most ardent art admirers. The ArtWalk was a great solution to allow art lovers the freedom to peruse a number of galleries beyond normal operating hours.
For 15 years running, and only on the first Thursday of every month, Laguna Beach art gallery owners throw open their doors to passing public. Local retailers and coffee shops follow suit. You will find plenty of live artist demonstrations, wine, cocktails, munchies and live music everywhere you go. In many cases, you will meet the artists themselves for a bit of conversation about their work. Throngs of people wandering the streets from 5:00 p.m. to about 11:00 p.m. It’s a down-home event!
Free shuttles operate all the night long between north Laguna galleries, downtown galleries and south/Hip District galleries. For me, I prefer to hoof it with friends as we always manage to happen upon a gallery we missed in the last month’s crossing.
Come on out and join us Thursday night!
