This week, a few of my readers had me looking for live music in Laguna Beach that didn’t necessarily involve a “club” scene.
Granted, the Laguna Beach Music Festival debuts next Monday, Feb. 3rd, and that’s a whole LOT of music … and GG’s Bistro seems to have a great live jazz night on Wednesday nights now, but where to go on our winter, off-season weekend evenings?
Leave it to the Montage to come up with an answer for live music in Laguna Beach with an open invitation to locals, as usual.
The resort has recently converted its Loft Restaurant lobby/bar area to bistro seating and, from 7:00 p.m. till close, resident musician JoJo Hahn is in the house every Friday and Saturday night. From the YouTube videos I’ve seen, JoJo is one stellar talent and plays a variety of instruments, his primary being keyboard and guitar.
While you can sit anywhere in the Loft restaurant and likely hear his great music, the Bistro is now offering its own menu, compliments of the ever-innovative Chef Casey Overton. I stopped in this morning for a quick chat with the ever-polite Montage crew, and nabbed the menu for an initial look-see.
The Bistro Menu is what the team calls a “crossover” menu, and it’s available from about 3:00 p.m. through closing. Appetizers include items such as Fish & Chips, Tomato Bisque, Oysters and Merquez Meatballs. Entrées add Burgers, Shrimp Scampi, Dorado and Grilled Steak, while handy sides fill in any possible gaps (garlicky green beans, pub fries, sea salt chips, and stuffed eggs, hmmm). The Apps and Entrées range in price from about $14 – $25.
I think I’m going to like this nifty add-on, and I’m sure many local buddies here in Laguna Beach are going to enjoy the addition, too.
