Sophisticated bar and Asian cuisine at Starfish in South Laguna Beach

[singlepic id=360 w=320 h=240 mode=watermark float=right]Last night was my second visit to Starfish (Asian Coastal Cuisine), the new restaurant in the space that most of us Laguna Beach locals remember as “Sam’s Paradise.” After Sam’s vacated. The China Bistro took...

The Deck – The only bar RIGHT on the “edge” in Laguna Beach

The Pacific Edge’s fabulous outdoor deck right on the beach (and I mean, waves lapping under the deck in high tide) has now become a full-blown outdoor bar – aptly titled “The Deck” – with full menu options and adjoining cabanas to boot. From me personally, I’d say it’s a big improvement! There’s no other open-air, gasp-at-the-sunset bar in Laguna Beach that sits any closer to the waves than this little winner.

The “Best Margarita in Laguna Beach” adds a 5th winner

As you may know, we’re in the high seas of an ongoing, much debated “Best Margarita in Laguna Beach” contest. I’ve asked you, my beloved readers, for input, and have managed to try a number of the most venerated votes. At this point, we’ve managed to name SIX margaritas to the “Best of Laguna Beach” list.

Best breakfast in Laguna Beach – new at Anastasia’s

I love Laguna Beach’s Anastasia’s Restaurant, even when it’s packed to the gills as it was today. I’ve written in more detail about Anastasia’s breakfasts before, but wanted to mention their newest 3 Off-Menu Specials that are racking up serious popularity points. You simply must get in and try these.

The Laguna Beach Best Margarita list is growing …

The ongoing search for Laguna Beach’s best margarita continues. Keep sending in your comments and I will faithfully donate my gall bladder to science in an effort to taste test your votes. In the last week, I had 46 comments arrive with votes for Laguna Beach-based Coyote Grill (tried it), 230 Forest (tried it), Nick’s Laguna Beach (tried it), Sun Dried Tomato (tried it), K’ya (haven’t gotten there yet), The Royal Hawaiian (tried it), The Lumberyard (scheduled for tomorrow), The Saloon (haven’t gotten there yet), and Sapphire Restaurant …

Lumberyard Restaurant: Great patio lunch in Laguna Beach

[singlepic id=158 w=320 h=240 mode=watermark float=right]Given that my best friend here in Laguna Beach has a dog (Bindi) that simply MUST be with her person as much as possible (hey, I can't blame Bindi - I like Lisa a lot, too) … I end up having lunch at The...

Yet Another Anniversary of Max Caputo’s Death

Every year since 2010, I've run this story on Max Caputo. He was the skimboard kid that everyone adored. He was killed in a hit-and-run accident on August 19, 2005, on PCH in Laguna Beach. Every year, his family and friends put up a memorial on the wall on PCH where...

Sawdust Festival bringing in happy hordes

First in Costa Mesa, Bonzai Bowl, with its acai bowls and acai smoothies, quietly made its way into Laguna Beach a couple years ago. It’s been nothing less than a constant stream of human “ants” in and out the doors ever since. With a base of healthy berry Acai, the...
